The prototypical MRL Class II will be shutting down before long, as the railroad has terminated its lease with the BNSF early. In a recent feature, we explored the history of the railroad. This month, we delve into some of the prototype’s features that can make it a strong contender for a model railroad. We share two layouts based on the MRL that take a different approach to modeling it. This feature includes photos of the prototype and of two HO scale layouts by Dave Mitchell and Kirk Thompson.
