Explore the history of refrigerated railcars and the refrigeration industry, and how it relates to modeling. This feature includes historical photos of the industry and photos showing how many modelers have incorporated reefers and the industry into their layouts. Several photos of Scott and Diane Buckley’s HO scale Tehama Valley Railroad are included, as well as other models of different scales.
Frozen in Time: Keeping the Montana Rail Link Alive at Home
The prototypical MRL Class II will be shutting down before long, as the railroad has terminated its lease with the BNSF early. In a recent feature, we explored the history of the railroad. This month, we delve into some of the prototype’s features that can make it a strong contender for a model railroad. We share two layouts based on the MRL that take a different approach to modeling it. This feature includes photos of the prototype and of two HO scale layouts by Dave Mitchell and Kirk Thompson.
